Sir Kai Ho Kai generously made a donation for the building of the Alice Memorial Hospital, introducing western medicine to local Chinese. In the same year, Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese was established, pioneering local medical training. The committee members of the new medical school included Rev. Dr. J. Chalmers, Dr. Patrick Manson and Sir James Cantlie. Alice Memorial Hospital was the teaching hospital for the College. One of that first group of students was Sun Yat-sen
