The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) was founded by Dr Richard C. Cabot in America in early 20th centry. It is a learning method of pastoral care under clinical and supervision. As an article published in Survey Graphic, Dr Richard C. Cabot suggested that every candidate for ministry receive clinical training for pastoral work similar to the clinical training offered to medical students.
Such concept was further developed by Professor Anton T. Boisen who was teaching in a theological seminary. Professor Anton T. Boisen deliberated case as Living human document from theological direction and was the first Supervisor to lead students performing pastoral care in hospital.
Dr William Keller adopted such model to discuss case and supervising theology students to practice in social service. He believed that practicing theology in the society making contribution is the integration of theology. Numerous leaders integrated the theology practice with medical science, psychology and various behavioural approach to CPE.
We hope to develop a model of theology education with the foundation of clinical experience which integrated pastoral care practice, supervision by accredited Supervisor, reflection and feedback by peer group to serve holistic care ministry.
