Since 1887, the forerunners of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Charity Foundation has demonstrated our commitment to deliver quality medical and health services based on the Love of Jesus, and the philosophi of serving with “Compassionate Love” over the Centuries
Our Timeline
1881
Nethersole Dispensary was set up in one of the rooms of the London Missionary Society’s Tai Ping Shan Chapel
1887
Sir Kai Ho Kai generously made a donation for the building of the Alice Memorial Hospital, introducing western medicine to local Chinese. In the same year, Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese was established, pioneering local medical training. The committee members of the new medical school included Rev. Dr. J. Chalmers, Dr. Patrick Manson and Sir James Cantlie. Alice Memorial Hospital was the teaching hospital for the College. One of that first group of students was Sun Yat-sen
1997
With the joint efforts of the Council for World Mission, the CWM/Nethersole Fund was established with the objectives of spreading the love of Christ and the spirit of sharing by subsidizing the projects and services in Hong Kong and China in areas of evangelism, medical and health, education and social service
1997
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) courses were introduced to train professional chaplains and committed volunteers. In 1999, the CPE courses attained international standard – accredited by the supervisors of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education in USA and recognized as a role model for the Asia Pacific Region
2007
Managed the United Christian Nethersole Care Home at Kwan Tong owned by our sister organization, the United Christian Medical Service, through Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Social Service Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary company of our organization. It is a self-financed nursing home providing long-term and short-term residential care to the persons in need. It ceased service in April 2017.
2008
The Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Charity Foundation Ordinance (C hapter 1181) was enacted. The organization continues and is committed to the provision of quality health care under the new corporate name of “Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Charity Foundation”, in place of The Executive Committee of the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital
