Inthe past year, in response to the new normal under COVID-19, all service units have devoted their minds and attentions to making good use of resources and information and communication technology to innovate and launch services that meet the needs of the community and service users. Thus, the service spirit of ''Compassionate Love with Holistic Care'' for more than 130 years is being passed on to brighten the lives of our Nethersole people and service users..
In order to keep up the standards of quality healthcare, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH) continued to optimize equipment and leverage on Information Technology, including the conversion works of Combined Endoscopy Unit, the replacement of Computed Tomography Scanning System in Diagnostic Radiology Department, the implementation of In-patient Medication Order Entry, and the provision of accessible patient education information. On the other hand, the Nethersole Clinical Simulation Training Centre at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH), as sponsored by the Foundation, has been benefited with an additional floor and enhanced facilities to provide more diversified simulation training for healthcare workers of PYNEH and Hong Kong East Cluster (HKEC) since its expansion in January 2020. Moreover, the anti-pandemic friendly kit has been developed to provide community resources and psychosocial support under ''healthyhkec'' website. Besides, the tele-consultation service piloted in 2020 in our sister hospital, United Christian Hospital (UCH), had been extended to more clinical departments in Kowloon East Cluster. UCH also introduced the trial of Autonomous Mobile Robot in assisting daily hospital operations, such as disinfection and material delivery, with an aim to reduce the heavy workload of healthcare workers and to improve infection control.
Our service units, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Nursing Home (ANNH) and Nethersole Outreaching Rehabilitation Mission (NORM) introduced different gerontech devices, such as Indoor Hydroponic Growing System and therapeutic robotic pets, to enhance the interest of occupational therapeutic exercises and to improve the psychological, physical and social functions of the elderlies. As for Chaplaincy Department, Nethersole Institute of Continuing Holistic Health Education (NICHE) and the ''Walking Hand-in-Hand'' Cancer Family Support Project team, they made more extensive use of video communication and various online meeting softwares to resume daily services gradually under the principle of strict social distancing.
In 2022, we will celebrate the 135th Anniversary of the Foundation and the 25th Anniversary of AHNH Relocation to Tai Po, while NICHE and United Christian Nethersole Community Health Service (UCN) will also celebrate their 20th Anniversary and the Golden Jubilee respectively. Thankfully, the preparation of a series of celebration events are in good progress. While reviewing the long history of Nethersole, we shall dedicate to operating our services and fulfilling the mission and vision given by the Lord with the core value of ''Compassionate Love with Holistic Care'' .
Last but not least, during this extraordinary period, on behalf of the Foundation and all of our service units, may I extend my heartfelt gratitude to various government departments, the Hospital Authority and different long term collaborators, as well as the Board of Governors and members of the Hospital Governing Committees for their valuable advices and opinions, and to local leaders and citizens in the community for their unfailing support and contributions. Our deepest thanks should also go to our dedicated staff for their great care of our patients and service users. All endless blessings and gratitude along the way have become the driving force for us to keep moving forward.
