Research
NICHE has worked on and invited hospitals in previous year to
co-operate in a two-year qualitative research project, “Best Practice
of Holistic Care: A Case Study Approach”. Through interviews with
frontline healthcare staff, the research aims to gather information
regarding their understanding toward holistic care and experience
of patient care. Analysis will be conducted to extract both the shared
and unique elements of holistic care. The research proposal was
approved by the New Territories East Cluster Clinical Research Ethics
Committee and NICHE has also recruited a Research Assistant for
the project. The research is expected to be completed in the coming
year and findings will be reported. Besides, NICHE has conducted
a quantitative study, “The Healthy Lifestyles of Enrolled Nursing
Students of Two Nursing Schools in Hong Kong”. The research report
was published at the Macau Journal of Nursing.
Prospect
NICHE is currently working on two projects, namely, a collection
of stories of chronic pain patients and the holistic care research
project. The cases have provided rich clinical data. We look forward
to seeing the healthcare workers and patients being benefited from
both projects. Besides, the data provides genuine materials for the
Institute’s educational and cultural services and serves as the basis
of evidence-based practice.
Before end of this year, NICHE Steering Committee had a strategic
planning workshop discussing our future development. Members
supported the direction of promoting the culture of “holistic health,
holistic care” among the youth and in the community. They also
proposed that the actualization of holistic care in clinical practice
would be the gist of the seminar in the coming year, and continued
to develop education programmes on spirituality.
